Ladies and gentlemen, earlier today I announced that PEPS will be hosting #CleanMovieMonth again this July. In honor of the 85th anniversary of the PCA’s formation this year, we are calling the month-long celebration #CleanMovieMonth85! We already have had two joiners, and we look forward to many more participants!
In addition to this whole month dedicated to Code films, we decided to host a blogathon in honor of the 85th anniversary of the Breen Era. Some people say that the Production Code Administration officially began its duties on July 1, but the final amendment was not completed until July 15. Thus, we have dedicated the whole month to the celebration of cinema which is decent for everyone! We decided to host our blogathon on the first weekend in July, 5-7.
We are calling our blogathon The Favorite Code Film Blogathon. The topic is described by the title. We are inviting participants to write about their favorite Code films. The rules are simple: just choose your favorite American movie made between July of 1934 and 1954 and write an article about why it is your favorite. However, we are putting a particular emphasis on the Code’s influence on these films. We don’t want you to write about some movie which you like just because it defied the Code. The focus of this blogathon is to celebrate decency!
That’s the main information which you need! Any film made in the correct time period is eligible. I am putting no restrictions on duplicates, since two people can like the same film for different reasons. I am only allowing one article per participant, so you will have to choose your one favorite Code film. You can post early or a little late if you need to, but I want to try to restrict most of the posts to the first weekend. If you want to participate but are busy on that weekend, why not join #CleanMovieMonth85 instead? You can write about your favorite Code film for that, too, and I will republish it on our website. Remember, you can participate in both! Please use these four banners I made to advertise the blogathon on your websites and on social media.

Hey Tiffany.
I’m really sorry about cancelling out of your previous blogathons. I hate having to do it, but sometimes I get caught up in other things or I suffer from those ghastly headaches, which prevents it too. However, I very much want to participate in this blogathon. I have a habit of starting my posts at the last minute too, but for this, I will start on it early, so I can get it done on time. I just have to decide what film I want to write about it. I will confirm my topic within the next day or two.

Hi guys, actually my comment is supposed to be for the Pre-Code vs Pro-Code presentation but there doesn’t seem to be a reply button on that article.
As you can probably see from my blog, if you care to take a look :), is that I’m not Joseph Breen’s biggest fan. In fact I’m no fan at all. However, I think it’s interesting what you guys are doing and you all have a very in-depth knowledge of the Breen Code. Even if I don’t necessarily agree with your viewpoint, I like to read your articles.
I’d just love to attend the presentation as I’m also a fan of Mark Vieira and his books, but I’m in Oregon, so nothing doing. Living in the LA area certainly has its perks when it comes to classic film. Do you have any idea if the presentation/talk can be put up on youtube?

Ack! It’s hard to pick just one film… Even so, I’d like to do “To Be or Not To Be” (1942). I just bought the DVD and have watched it twice already. I love the script and the performances.
It will be truly interesting to see which films everyone chooses. 🙂
